There are lots of different ways in which undergraduates can get involved with outreach activities at St Anne’s. With our new Student Ambassador scheme, undergrads have the opportunity to apply to be a part of the team of around 30 students who help with open days, college tours, school visits in Oxford and visits in their local area. Ambassadors get priority for working at admissions interviews in December, helping to make the interviewees have as smooth and enjoyable time as possible; it is also a lot of fun! If there are additional places, this opportunity will be advertised in Michaelmas Term.
Application for places on the student ambassador scheme will be advertised at the end of Hilary Term (the scheme requires a minimum one-year commitment from May-May), but we are always on the lookout for volunteers who are keen to get involved with our schools work - you might want to contribujte to our website, be in an admissions video/tour, or help the Access Rep in editing the Alternative Prospectus! We are happy for interested students to shadow our ambassadors in school visits in St Anne’s throughout the year – contact me if you are interested! There are also some subject Open Days which run each year at St Anne’s (English and PPE in 2014), so look out for calls for volunteers.
St Anne’s students have a great reputation for being friendly and open, and our volunteers help with access and outreach projects around the University: department Open Days, the Pathways programme for schools with limited student progression to Oxford, the UNIQ Summer School, projects run by the University’s Student Recruitment Team (Student Conferences for Year 12 or Teachers’ Conferences around the UK), working as education officers for student plays, and many other projects! The Access Rep will be happy to point you in the direction of access-related charities across the University, e.g. Target Schools. To hear more about University-wide access opportunities, do join the Target Schools Mailing List and take a look at their website.
At St Anne’s, we are always open to suggestions from volunteers, so let us know if you are interested in helping out or have a new idea to encourage the brightest and best students from around the world to apply to us!
